Unplugging from the Matrix

The internet is a band-aid of procrastination, the metaverse will be worse.

I went to bed too late last night.

The Instagram algorithm kidnapped me, endlessly scrolling with pointless purpose. I know it's a symptom of our society, to be drawn into the fake online world. Perhaps it was a bit of revenge procrastination on my part. Who knows. But I’m tired this morning and despite a long to-do list for today I still haven’t tackled a single one…

It’s too easy to get sucked down into the internet rabbit hole. I’m concerned about the Metaverse — are we willingly going down a “Matrix”-ification of our lives? Are we giving up living in the real world for a fantasy online? Are the current social media platforms indoctrinating us to make this acceptable, palatable … desirable?

I know it’s an addiction — but like all addictions, it’s hard to break. And like all addictions, it’s a symptom with an underlying cause.

What, in our society, makes us want to escape so much?

Deep down, I feel that there has been an erosion of our purpose, that the lives that we are living are no longer the ones that we were built for. Whilst there has been a vast improvement in living conditions since the industrial revolution, there has also been a severe…
