Metaverse Museums: MOCA

The Museum of Crypto Art is a leader in the Crypto Art sphere, but presentation leaves much to be desired

The Museum of Crypto Art (M○C△) was founded by Colborn Bell and Pablo Rodriguez-Fraile (who have now parted ways). The museum has been incorporated as a not-for-profit foundation, and takes a community governance approach to its development through its $MOCA token. Taking inspiration from the Brazilian museum Inhotim set within an open park, a small selection of the foundation’s artworks is displayed within a small virtual gallery in Somnium Space.

The Somnium Space uses the standard WASD plus mouse for navigation, but unfortunately, the location of the artwork within the structure detracts from their presence within the space. The virtual architecture cuts through your visual field, obscuring the works and being a thorough pain to navigate through. I understand that having no physical boundaries or physics to contend with means that there are no longer any architectural rules and traditional boundaries can be pushed, but I feel that this has been taken too far and without thought for the presentation of the artworks in this case.
