Metaverse Museums: Mirukai
A small Japanese not-for-profit shows the potential of Metaverse museums
A google search lands me on the Mirukai Virtual Museum landing page. I’m unsure what to expect and hesitantly click to enter. After a long loading time, the Mirukai virtual museum loads, created by a Japanese non-profit organisation.
The organisation behind the museum, Tokushimani Denshi Toshokanwo Tsukuttemirukai, is based in the Tokushima Prefecture of Japan and operates a digital library and VR museum which can be browsed from the internet, whilst also providing educational materials for science and technology. From their home page, you may choose to enter the Digital Library in which you can search and browse books from the internet (mainly in Japanese), the Library, where you can information on their own physical library space in Tokushima Japan, and the VR Museum of Art — which I’m most interested in.
The VR Museum of Art is a small virtual space with a small white-cube-style gallery attached to a small library and kitchenette. Landing within the small gallery space, you can use either arrow or WASD keys to move around, using the mouse to look around. Navigating the space is intuitive, and from the lounge area you get — what I assume — is a nice view of Tokushima.
